If you’re wondering when to elope in Florida, the best time is November through April. Florida might not have four traditional seasons, but it definitely has personality when it comes to weather. With the subtropical climate, we experience a dry season and a wet season that correlates with the dreaded hurricane season.
As a native, I know the Florida seasons well, so you can relax when I’m helping you plan your elopement day. No need to stress about hurricanes, here’s the full season by season breakdown!
December through February is hands down my favorite time of year to elope in Florida. You’ll enjoy mild weather, clear skies, and low humidity. Meaning no sweating through your beautiful wedding attire! Daytime temperatures are usually in the 60s or 70s, even the low temperatures in South Florida don’t usually go below 60. Since it’s dry and cool there are also a lot less bugs and mosquitos!
March through May is a close second for elopements in Florida, especially if you’re considering water activities as the ocean will be warmer. March and April still have comfortable temperatures, though March can get expensive and crowded due to spring break. In May the heat and humidity will start amping up and the first summer storms may begin.
Let’s be honest June, July and August can be unbearably hot and humid in Florida. There are daily afternoon thunderstorms almost guaranteed, not to mention hurricane season. It’s not an easy time to plan an outdoor elopement, but you can make it work by starting at sunrise and spending the afternoon indoors.
It is still warm through September and October, but a more comfortable warm: temperatures and humidity will start to drop and rainfall becomes rare later into fall. November will begin getting the cool winter weather and it’s my top choice for a fall elopement in Florida.

Hurricane season is from June 1st to November 30th, with peak hurricane activity being August through early October. However not every month (or even year) has hurricanes threatening Florida. Luckily once storms form they are being tracked and you’ll know when and approximately where they’re going. Although November is included in hurricane season it’s usually a pretty safe bet. Elopements can be done during this time but you’ll need to stay flexible, have backup plans, and consider travel insurance.
You’ll find that the best time to elope matches up with peak tourism and wedding season, November through April. It’s peak season for a reason! Our seasonal residents (snowbirds) and vacationers come to enjoy a break from the real winter up North. What this means is hotels, venues, and vendors can book up far in advance. If you’re booking vendors start planning 6-10 months in advance. And to avoid crowds in popular locations, I recommend eloping on a weekday!
