Heitman House Photography: First Birthday Photography Session

One year old in first birthday hat

Emilia’s one year milestone session was captured at the historic Heitman House. Originally built in 1908 and gifted as an engagement present to Gilmer Heitman’s bride, the Heitman House now serves as a cherished wedding venue. In fact, it’s Emilia’s parents’ wedding venue! So it was extra special to go back to the venue to capture her first birthday photography session. The natural light in the bridal suite made for gorgeous photos. Her pink dress is so cute and it fits in perfectly with the historic interior. We also went outside for a few photos in her blue floral dress at the end of the photoshoot. We didn’t stay out too long though because of the Florida heat!

One year milestone photoshoot ideas

Turning one is such an exciting milestone, and capturing it in a birthday photography session creates memories you’ll cherish forever. It’s also a perfect chance to get photos of your little one learning to walk! It can be helpful to bring a grandparent or friend to help make them smile and keep them in place. One year olds would rather be on the move! Your photographer will also capture their personality and newly learned expressions.

A popular first birthday session idea is a cake smash photoshoot! Including decorations like balloons and backdrops adds fun and color, and you’re sure to capture some funny moments as they taste their first cake. I recommend a vanilla cake because although chocolate is more delicious, it doesn’t look very good in photos!

You might also consider combining your baby’s one year with a family session. This can be a wonderful way to get some photos of everyone together as well as the little one on their own. Especially for first-time parents, this could be the perfect opportunity for your first family photos!
